How do I become a Highland cattle breeder/owner?

A STARTER PACK, consisting of two young heifers and a young bull, is an ideal way to get started. The advantage is, you get familiar with looking after your cattle, while they are still small.

18 months later, you should have your first calves on the ground giving you return on your investment.

How much land do I need?

If you have good land you can run 3 Highland cattle to the acre. Being a medium breed and able to forage, Highl;and cattle will use your land with maximum efficiency, therefore giving you a good return on your acrerage

Do they require a lot of maintenance?

NOT AT ALL!

They certainly do not need grooming, unless you are preparing them for show, or you like to give them an extra treat. They loose their winter coat naturally in late spring.

Highland Cattle respond extremely well to human contact. They are highly intelligent and will become very friendly, if handled frequently. You'll find, you become addicted of going into the paddock after work and telling your Highlands about your day.

They are extremely hardy, therefore the only cattle breed to be able to winter outside in every country of the world. Only a maintenance ration of hay or silage is required to tide them over winter.
